Hello, My question concerns seams on Lozenge covered Fokker's. Since the pattern was not wide enough to wrap around the fuselage, was there a seam at or near the top longeron (DVI,DVII,EV)? If so was the seam taped in any way? I realize the bottom was split down the center with lacing, but was the bottom of the fuselage done in light or dark lozenge. Any assistance on this topic will be gratefully appreciated as I am preparing to cover a 1/4 scale EV.

My Gallery
DJ:
Fokker DR.I, D.VI, D.VII and E.V/D.VIII fuselage cover was made up of 5 pieces. they were: bottom right half, right side, top of the turtle deck, left side and bottom left half. They were seamed along the longerons. On the top and sides of the D.VI, D.VII and E.V/D.VIII were the dark upper lozenge printed fabric and the bottom halves were the light lower printed lozenge fabric. The DR.I was covered entirely with unbleached plain linen fabric.
Blue skies,

Thank you, There was no attempt to tape the seam? I couldn't see any in the pictures I have access to.

Dan,

I have a section of four-color light lower printed lozenge fabric that is two pieces seemed together. The three rib tapes are pink. Because of the spacing between the ribs, I think it is from a Fokker D.VII. There is a black stencil "6746" in the same lettering style as used by Albatros on other Fokker D.VII's they built, such as the one at the Brome County Historical Society. My guess - and you would know much better than I - is that it is from the underside of the rear edge of the upper wing.

Apparently one of the old Ian Stair Fokker D.VII fuselage drawings showed 6746, but I have never come across a photograph of the aircraft.

Any pointers? Do you know of any such photographs? I didn't find 6746 in your catalog and I think I have every one through 1998. Anything more recent on your horizon?
