Restless Spirits

I just watched a fantastic movie called Restless Spirits. This is one you could easily watch with the kids. It is about a little girl who loses her father, a test pilot. She goes to her Grandmother's house in Newfoundland and learns that there are supposed to be ghosts by a body of water called 'Porter's Pond.' Well, who are they but the ghosts of Charles Nungesser and his navigator! Purists will probably roll their eyes, but like it or not, the movie can serve as a great introduction to historical aviation for kids. Yes, there is a character who plays Nungesser himself!

It's available on video and probably DVD. Family viewing.

I think that movie is the greatest thing to come from the CBC since Terry Fox coverage.

I sure got a kick out of the "Nungesser character" it seemed very plausible..."I Got THIS medal from burning down a boche machine ...and THIS medal..."

This soundslike a wonderful movie. I will have to check it out.

A few years ago, when I was working for a nuclear weapons plant (no lie) they hired a hazmat contractor by the name of Nungesser. He sort of looked like Charles--though not as scarred up. So, I finally asked him. Second or third cousin, it turns out. And yes, he gets asked more often than you would think.

Hey good buddy! I will check with the Murvaux populace and maybe they can set the Vimy down in this quaint field near Milly Creek. Boy, that really would be something to see. I don't know if Bonnie and I can get over there this weekend but I'll let you know A.S.A.P. if it looks like it might work out. I guess there was a WWI reenactment over the past weekend in San Pedro, that would have been fun to attend as well. By the way, the movie 'Restless Spirits' is available at Blockbuster. I get so frustrated looking for good aviation/war movies that I'm about to open my own specialty video store! Take care.

I was working at the Kinko's in State College, PA when a customer came up with the last name of Nungesser. I asked her if she knew that that's the name of a rather famous WWI fighter ace. She told me that the ace was her husband's great grandfather.
