I don't know what you are looking for exactly, but there is no quote about any aviator that stirs me more than this, written by Harold Hartney about Frank Luke. Luke will always have his critics, but I doubt if many would disagree with Hartney's sentiments.

"Man, how that kid could fly! No one, mind you, no one, had the sheer contemptuous courage that boy possessed. I know he's been criticized for being such a lone-hander, but, good Lord, he won us priceless victories by those very tactics. He was an excellent pilot and probably the best flying marksman on the Western Front. We had any number of expert pilots and there was no shortage of good shots, but the perfect combination, like the perfect specimen of anything in the world, was scarce. Frank Luke was the perfect combination."

"I hope he sizzled all the way down."

"Always remember your altitude and relation to the runway; otherwise it will bite you!" Words spoken to a would be glider pilot by Mr. R. Opitz, flight instructor, sometime rocket aircraft testpilot, member Colonel Boyds' "X" team, etc.

After splashing down into te Irish Sea
on April 18, 1919, and seeing his water-
logged plane, The Shamrock would never fly again, Major J. C. Woods said, "The
Atlantic flight is pipped."

Not a quote from a pilot but still appropriate. This really happened. One American Infantryman to another as they stood watching German Infantry marching, in perfect order, back to Germany after the 1918 armistice: "Vic, in twenty years we'll be right back here again. They ain't been whipped enough yet."
