I don't think Art ever really considered himself a "professional historian" and I think that's the area where all the criticism comes from. Sitting down with one of Art's books is like having one of the men who were there sitting down in your living room and telling you what it was really like from their own experience and what their buddies told them.I am a history nut myself and am always trying to find the real "truth"(vain quest!) but there is absolutely nothing to compare with the personal accounts of actual participants, mistaken or not.
