Hello Folks

I am curious to find details regarding Lt Gude of the 94th, specifically, his 'defection', if it was in fact so, to the Germans. I have tried the search feature on both this forum, and the old forum, and have come up with nothing.

Any and all info will be appreciated.

Safe flying folks,

Patrick

From a couple of sources I found that Oscar J. Gude was first in the 94th Pursuit sqn. and transferred to the 93rd on July 11/18. Flying Maj. Huffer's Spad XIII #1 he deserted to Jasta 65 at Mars la Tour on Oct. 22/18.
Later in prison camp he lied about the circumstances. A British pilot also POW was on the ground and saw Gude circle the airfield twice and land, saying "fini la geurre".
C.D'Olive of the 93rd in an interview stated that Gude had been educated in Vienna before the war, had lots of money and never did much fighting. He 'got lost in Paris' for a week at a time.

Hope this helps
Cliff

Hello Cliff

Thank you for the reply. Yes, it was helpful as I had until now less than no info, other than I read a brief insinuation to his defection in a publication some years ago.

Again, thank you.

Keep those heads swiveling folks, it's the one ya don't see that gets ya!
