Trying to come up with a color scheme for my DVII. Definitely want to use lozenge wings. I am thinking of going with Hippert's DVII with blue nose and checkerboard fuselage. Is there any replica aircraft out there using this scheme? If so, do you have any suggestions for a DVII scheme that is not currently being used :-/?

Hi Buckt,

* * I can't tell you if there is a Hippert replica but the chance to offer interesting colour schemes for Fokker D.VII aircraft *was too hard to pass by without making comments.

* If for some reason you choose not to go with the Hippert scheme:

* If you really like the cherckerboard motif , Jasta 60 used a tailplane stripped both sides in a black and white checkerboard pattern. Personal markings in black and white. The examples I have seen from this unit were built by OAW.

* The German Navy had some interesting schemes that seem to get passed over and if you want to be flamboyant , from *MFJ1 , *Ltn. z. S. Gotthard Sachsenberg's yellow D.VII with the black diamoned fuselage is very spectacular, unfortunately,at least the top surface of the top wing in yellow.

* * * * * * *MacBain

Hi Buckt,

I've never seen any full-size replica D.VIIs in Hippert's color scheme, just some small models. It would certainly be an eye-catcher.

As MacBain says, there are plenty of other possibilities. If I may be so immodest, perhaps you should invest in the three D.VII Anthology booklets from Albatros productions. You may find them at Aeroplane Books or some other hobby shops.

Good luck with your D.VII !

Greetings buckt:

Gregvan is correct about the small scale versions one done by a fellow in CA by the name of Wictor. A diorama called 'Home from the Hunt.' *There is also a multi view rendering in recent Over the Front issues. *No full scale versions yet but 'Mimmi' would make a great one go for it!!!

Thanks for the info about the DVII anthology. Got them yesterday. I am very impressed with DVII 4499/18 with the yellow nose and black side stripes.
I am going with Hippert's personal markings. I might change "mimmi" to Julianne. After all she is looking the other way on this project. I assume "mimmi" is Hippert's wife or girlfriend. If it is his dog I will be in trouble.
Roger Freeman has my fuselage and is putting on the tail fins. I have 2 Gipsy Queen engines from Australia being shipped to Udo Jorges in Germany and my top wing is finally done from Neil Good. Might actually see this project come to fruition in the next year or two.

May she give you many hour of joy. (The aircraft that is!) A toast, I propose a toast! Here's to Julianne for being kind and looking the other direction. May we all be so lucky!

Neil seems to be as busy as a one-legged man at an a**-kicking contest...I'm amazed he has the time to sleep! *He's done some really great work on Fokker wings, he's built a number of E.V wings as well as D.VIIs, so you should have some really quality work there. *Can't wait to see it fly! *To have an understanding wife is a blessing...

Buckt, I saw your fuselage at Roger's yesterday. *Once up on wheels it will look great alongside our own D.VII project. *The horizontal stabilizer has been temporarily mounted onto the fuselage. It will have to be braced and trued before final mounting occurs. Work was also started on the various wooden pieces need for mounting the rudder.
