Dear Wolfenbill,

you said that your Fokker D.VII uses the Göttingen profile.

Where did you find this? What is the Göttingen number of that airfoil? I am just curious since the "Technische Berichte" published the Göttingen wind tunnel test on German airfoils in 1917/18 and I could not locate any Fokker D.VII airfoil whithin that collection.

Is there another source? perhaps on the internet?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

I don't remember where the Gottingen profile was located nor do I remember its number. However, I plan to return to our facility after Christmas and I will try to retrieve the information at that time. Then I will send it to you.

Thanks, I am indeed looking forward to your info on the airfoils.

Allright, just another German lesson. *

You can not do the "Umlaute" (ä, ö, ü) that easy unless you have a German keybord like we Germans use it, but there is another way to be correct.

Instead of ä, ö, ü, you can type ae, oe and ue.

This is the correct writing of the German "Umlaute" if you do not have the "Umlaute" themselves.

"Kühler" (radiator) = "Kuehler"
"Göttingen" = "Goettingen" *
"Bölcke" = "Boelcke"

hope this clears the matter.

Wolfenbill,

The way to make umlauts and other characters on the PC (the most common ones) in the US is by using the keypad and holding down the alt key:

alt 0252 = ü
alt 0228 = ä
alt 0246 = ö
alt 0223 = ß
alt 0244 = ô
alt 0233 = é

Or istead of the "ß" use "ss"

"Stoßfänger" (shock absorber) = "Stossfaenger"

much simpler than "alt...what was it?"

But that´s cool, Aviatik! I did actually not know that!

Dtenney,

I will send you a list of translations of some of the technical German words and phrases. I will do that off-list.

The list was prepared for my set of construction drawings for the Dr.I and D.VII, to make them easier to read for non Germans.

Achim

P.S. Your question on Fokker D.VII post war motorization:

Apost war US two seat conversion used a 200 HP Hall-Scott engine.

At Holland after war experiments took place with a 230 HP Armstrong Siddeley Puma.

Fokker advertising showing a line of "Puma" powered D.VII´s in the 20ies.

At McCook field there have performance tests been carried out with D.VII´s powered with the 220 HP liberty engine.

You might consider looking for one of these engines if you can not locate a Mercedes or BMW. This will still be a original Fokker D.VII although not used by the Germans in WWI
