O.k. I am now looking at a gypsy queen mk2 engine for my DVII. 250 hp at 2300rpm which might get me to where I want to be at 1700 rpm to throw a bigger prop. Dave Watts thinks Javier Arango(sp) has one in his blue max DVII. Does anybody have any info on this motor and how easy is it to invert? :-/

Internet has lots of stuff. Spell Gipsy with an i (not Gypsy) in the search engines.

Buckt,
* * I used to work for Javier, and flew the ex-Blue Max D.VII a few times. *It does have a Gipsy Queen engine in it, but I'm not familiar with what was done to invert it. *I know there was a problem with oil leaking past the mag drives. *It ran good, and flew great, easy to land, and fun to fly. *It definately didn't perform like a Mercedes-powered D.VII, but you can't have everything.
* * I don't think I'd put a big prop on the engine and turn it slower, I think you'd be better off turning it close to it's rated rpm, rather than lugging down the engine with a big prop. *Maybe a little bigger diameter, but less pitch so it would still turn up. *It just doesn't have the cubic inches like the Mercedes, the 170 hp on the power curve isn't comparable. *The Ranger is 440 ci, the Gipsy Queen about 100 more, I believe, but I think the Mercedes is around 1,000 ci, isn't it?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * AK
