Ferrule winding??

Has anyone here had any luck winding ferrules for music wire ends (bay bracing, etc)???
Somebody must have the technology for making these basic period aircraft parts!

Currently working on a very exacting Ryan NYP repro (SpiriT '02 project), but interest in building techniques covers alot of ground- pre WW1 thru WWII. Love the wood and wire types, with a growing experience in several phases of construction.

Just bought 1/3 interest in PA 22 which is very close to being airworthy. It's closer to flying than the Spirit(approx 75% complete), which by the way, uses original ferrules and WW1 turnbuckles.
Stash of ferrules is now somewhat depleted thus prompting my question.

Gotta say I realy enjoy the "how to" questions and the enlightening discussions appearing on this forum.

Would love to see more discussion regarding other (than spruce) appropriate wood species, selection, and applications for aircraft use. My old mechanic's textbooks, CAM 18, and other period publications speak of Port Orford Cedar, White pine , Western hemlock and othe r suitable species. Has anyone actually looked into their availability?
