;D I have sadly returned from the Shuttleworth Collection, and am slowly coming down to earth. As usual, a glorious evening was spent at Old Warden. The weather was very kind to us, last year it was torrential rain, this year we were treated to a beautiful balmy evening. The event kicked off with an aerial Ballet performed by a gilder to 'Air on a G-String' by Bach, followed by the Bristol Fighter and the Bristol M1c flying to 'Pomp and Circumstance No4, the two aircraft flying in formation were a joy to behold. This was swiftly followed up with the Southern Martlet and the Hawker Tomtit, music was the 'Tahiti Trot' by Shostkovitch. Then the Westland Lysander and Spitfire Vc which flew to 'Force 10 from Naverone ' and 'Spitfire Prelude and Fugue'. Oh, the Bristol B2 also flew, The concert ended with the usual 'Rule Brittania' and 'Jerusalem' and then 'Land of Hope and Glory', lots of flag waving and singing, even the pilots get on stage and join in, then a huge firework display to rapturous encores of 'Land of Hope and Glory', then we all went to the village pub !
I am very lucky to have a brother who is an 'erk' with the Shuttleworth Collection, so I even get to stay in the village near the airfield, we were awoken on the Sunday morning with a De Havilland Rapide on finals just over the roof top. (It was the annual 'De Havilland Moth Fly-in at Woburn Abbey, which is only a few miles from Shuttleworth.)
Oh well, until next year ! Although there is another air display next weekend, but it is an 800 mile round trip from here, so I can only be with them in spirit !
I think I might move house !
