At 12 midnight tonight (Sunday, May 26/Monday, May 27, 2002), Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will air D.W. Griffith's WWI film Hearts of the World. The film had once been thought lost. From what I've read, it's not for the faint-hearted.
Earlier in the day, TCM aired the swords and sandals epic Spartacus, which it said was "directed by Stanley Kubrick." While he did complete the picture, it was planned and mostly directed by Anthony Mann, who was fired by producer-star Kirk Douglas before the picture was finished. Evidence of this is the absence of the sterile air and cardboard performances often found in Kubrick's films.
