Hello All:
I recently wrote to Schiffer Books via email asking about the publication status of Neal's Vol. VII book. *The reply was that there was nothing in the works for it to be published anywhere in the foreseeable future. > *
Other forumites and myself have discussed this unfortunate situation offline. *We hate to think it, but although Schiffer has the book materials, it's felt that Schiffer has put Neal's book on the back-burner since he is now deceased. *
We're open to any ideas towards getting Neal's book published, such as an email writing campaign to Schiffer Books. *Does anyone have any ideas? *Has anyone seen a situation like this before?
Thanks for your support.

Hi Amy,
that is really a very bad news! >
What are these Schiffner guys thinking? Do they fear volume VII would not find enough buyers or is there nobody left to finish the job? ???
Anyway, I hope anybody has additional ideas to promote the publication of this valuable volume! I am afraid after the third e-mail everybody is getting the same useless answer but I will e-mail to Schiffner too.

Amy,
* *You worded it much better than I ever would. *I sent an E-Mail off to Schiffer this AM. *Yes, I think it is time to rouse the Forum members into bombarding Schiffer with E-Mails asking 'when will this book see the light of day?' *A little pressure never hurts in trying to get things done!!

If we might assume that Schiffer is not as passionate about this subject as we are - I think that's justified - then they must be passionate about making $ with their product line.
I would suggest we collectively arouse their interest in publishing Neal's Vol. VII by appealing to their sense of capitalist fervor. If we prove there is a strong market, there will certainly be more impetus to publish. I don't think I'd be mistaken to say that Vol. I-VI sold out - an almost unheard of result for a series of books. As a marketer, I would say that's a pretty strong market. They may need a reminder of that fact.
It might not hurt too much to point out that some of Neal's past work - such as the Bavarian Volume I, shows up on EBAY and fetches 10 times the original price or more. I am certain in the years to come, Vol II - VII will be as popular.
If we can't find it in ourselves to go about this for the purely selfish reason of having another excellent book on our shelves, let's screw up our resolve to pay one more tribute to Neal, his life's work and the braves he has immortalized in his books.
My email is on the way - makes yours next !

I will contact Jack Herris. He and I put together the last two volumes, V and VI (Actually, IV, V, and VI between us.)
Perhaps, we can salvage this. We were going to do this until Schiffer made an offer that made easier on Neal. So much for agreements.
Stay tuned...

Thanks everyone.
It was rumoured that Schiffer might re-print Vol. I and II, but I can't see that happening in my lifetime if they can't get Vol. VII out the door.
I'd be interested in seeing how much a Vol. II sells for, particularly since I've never seen one for sale in the past seven years or so. Has anyone?
Please keep us informed of any feedback. Perhaps we should start picketing?

Amy,
After 24 hours, I finally received a (not to encouraging) reply to my E-Mail from Schiffer requesting a planned publication date. To quote in full, "I have no date on when the book will be in. Please check at a later time."
Sounds like they reinforced the old adage, 'out of sight, out of mind.' Not good news. R.

Don't give up hope people. Since becoming aware of this due to Amy's message some talks are under way. I would suggest not deluging Schiffer with any more emails until a clearer picture is received. I know who the person is who normally handles the WWI books there and so we want to make sure we can deal with him and him not be incensed or hard to deal with. Stay tuned...
