There is an excellent WWI research resource in the WWI issues of THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS for the war years. I have a complete set, and years ago I made 28 pages of notations of photos and articles and drawings *(many of which are two page spreads-In this large format, they open to 16” x 24”!)
Of WWI aviation events and reports. The reports on zepplins, attacks, construction etc are without peer. Unusual detail in reporting with photos and dwgs etc, of actions in Egypt, and the Mediterranean and all obscure fronts. *Of particular interest to researchers are *the ongoing reports of aviation obituaries with portrait photos, awards, service history for a great many WWI British fliers. As a very small sample I will list a short group below. The dates given are the date of the article , not the date of death, and I have the pages noted.

Pegoud-Death of the French aviator, Aug 31, 1915, pp324-5
W.C. Adamson, RFC; Capt R. Maxwell Pike RFC ; Sept 25, p 408
Lt. S. Winther Caws RFC Nov 13,1915, p 61
Lt. W.J.R. Mc Connochie RFC; Flight Sub Lt G.W. Hilliard RNAS Nov 27, 1915, p 693
Flight Sub Lt J.H. Rose RNAS Dec 11, 1915, p757
Flight Sub Lt B.F.M. Hughes RNAS Dec 18, p770
1916
Lt. O.V. LeBas RFC, Jan 15, p 74
Flight Sub Lt. C.H. Brinsmead, Fewb 5 cover
Probationary Flight Sub Lt. Francis H. Toms RN, Mar 18, p 376
2nd Lt. Terence D. O’Brien, 16th Lancers-attached RFC and 2nd Lt. A.E.C.Archer, The Buffs & RFC
2nd Lt W.N. Thomas RFC; *Lt *Douglas Tweedy-Smith RFC who was inspector of aeroplanes at Farnborough, Apr 29 p 552
Lt. S.G. Ridley RFC killed in Egypt, July 15, p 79
These are just a very small portion of the obits with photos. Just samples.
If anyone would care to type up an alphabetical listing of all the British fliers covered in these 26 volumes I have made aviation notes of, I will send him my 27 pages of handwritten notes, which are now *listed chronologically. This includes all the various photo and illustrated technical articles and superb aviation artwork on the aircraft and airship reports of all the combatants and all the fronts etc

My Gallery
Joe -

Send 'em to me. I have a complete set as well, but you'll save me the legwork repeating the work you've already done. Stand by for my snail-mail.

Mike

Mike;
I received the snail mail address. They'll go out tomorrow. Since you have a set of the bound volumes, I'm sure they'll be of some interest. I look at the list every couple of years and go back to the notes with NEW questions that have come up. *

BTW is there any detailed statistic of the British aero fatalities because of accidents available?
I think I saw repeatedly numbers concerning the airplanes which were causing the most lethal accidents but is there also a statistic showing the number of people killed in accidents with detailed structures (officers, NCO, soldiers, combat and non-combat, front and homeland etc etc)?
I have heard about the number of 8000 British soldiers killed in aviation accidents. Does the number refer to accidents at the front and in the homeland, or only in the homeland?
