Hi everyone,

I have always been curious how well other flyers have done flying Red Baron II/3D. My highest score is 54 kills, this with maximum realism and 125% enemy skill level. I was flying an Albatros DVa, first as a member of , you guessed it, Jasta 75, and then as a member of JASTA 7(all in 1918). I was finally killed by a Nieuport 24 of 40th Sq. RFC on May 5, 1918.

If you all could tell me what your highest score is, and the circumstances surrounding it, I think that it would make for good reading. Fell free to tell me about your most memorable mission!

Regards,

JASTA 75

Well my best is 62 kills from 1916 to mid 1918. I was wounded and hospitalized 3 times taking up a total of 4 months. Captured twice taking up 10 months. I started as a 2nd Liuetenant flying for the 1st Squadron. On the 9/12/1916 I was promoted to Liutenant. Soon after I was captured for 6 months. A little while after escaping I was set the task of attacking an Aerodrome. When I arrived there in my Nieuport there were 4 planes on the Aerodrome runway about to takeoff. So as I flew over I dropped my 2 bombs and took out 3 and then the last on the way back with a rocket(on my 4 attempt). That took me too 35 kills. Then 2 months later I was captured for 4 months. The 10 days prior to my death I was promoted to Captain. On my final flight I shot down 2 Gotha.V.I's until while flying over the front flak hit my wing and I span to my grave. Over the campaign I was awarded the: Distinguished Service Award and the Victoria Cross.

P.S Its so detailed cause I wrote down the major events

This is exactly the kind of stuff I want to here about! Good job on lasting that long. I usually only last about a month then I get waxed by some hot-shot enemy pilot. I am still trying to reach the infamous 80 kill mark.

Ah, so many missions, so many memories...
Here then, as concisely as I can relate it, was my best mission...
Dawn mission, the sun not yet up. You couldn't see the ground very well, you'd have to look at the horizon to see anything flying backlit against the sky...
Flying a SE-5a; realism up to 125%-- does anyone remember the little 'trick' with the SE-5a's gunsight? That is, you didn't center your target, but instead used the top half (more or less) of the sight to really hit your target well...
Just took off; still close to the ground, just above the trees.
Suddenly--
A formation... a flight... I go to join up... BUT IT'S JERRY!!!
What the heck are they doing over THIS side of the line?
No time to wonder. Just aim and shoot!
On the tail of one-- pup-pup-pup-pup-pow! Did I get him? Can't say-- those DVs are tough as hell! Fly past him, now on the tail of his brother... BANG-- this time he crashes down!
Then it's my turn-- I hear that sickening ripping sound, the groaning of the wood-- I'm taking hits! Put my nose down, gain some speed, come up under another one... steady... steady... got to get him before that last one gets me... top of sight... closer... POW!... turns right into the ground...
Then I get hit again... and again... I sure am lucky!... I decide to stick close to the ground... I'll just land if I'm really in trouble... but now I've got to turn...
AND THEY'RE EVERYWHERE!!!
Oh, Christ, THIS IS THE END! I can't get out of this... there's too many of 'em...
I aim and shoot and pull away and aim and shoot and pull away... always short bursts... sometimes to the wing... often to the engine... just shoot and turn... shoot and turn...
It's getting quieter now... more sky and less of them... where'd they go? I take a look in back of me...
Ah, so there you are!
Three Albatri (Arthur Gould Lee's phrase, BTW)-- one of 'em shoots, but I turn just in time... my planes damaged, slower, but still in one piece... I could land if I had to... I keep turning.
One zooms past... I'm behind all three, and CLOSE... I target the middle one... the flight leader? Well, whoever you are, you shouldn't have shot at me... I open the throttle... I'm flying by gunsight now...
Thought you had me?... Thought you had me?... Closer... Closer... Son of a bitch... Son of a bitch... Pilot's in the center of the sight now.... Steady... Top of sight... I pull the trigger... Let him have it!... Let him have it!... GOT 'IM!!!
A hissing sound... now I'm out of ammo... and I'm getting hit again... must be the one on my left, he's probably behind me...
just throttle back, and put her down... engine off...
I got nine of them! NINE! And I lived to fight another day!
[One thing that I learned from that-- in RB3D, you don't neccessarily have to 'flame' your enemy or shoot the hell out of him; but well-aimed shooting, even if the damage isn't readlly apparent, can be just as effective!]

Not bad shooting Captain Lewis! The most I ever downed in a single mission was 8 aircraft, and that included 4 barrage balloons.

Salute!
My highest score in campaign is 84 kills from 1916 to 1918 with the german side. Started with Jasta5 flying the AlbatrosDII, passed trought the Jasta18 flying the Dr1 (my prefered plane) and finishied the career with Jasta2, when my Fokker DVII was shot down by an english Camel.
I was wounded and declared unable to continue the war. :-/
My best score in a single mission is 6 planes with my red/white DR1 when i was in the J18. Got all the germans medals included the Order of the Red Eagle.

The only campaign that i have finishied 'cause of the end of the war i was in the french side...started in the first 1917 and finishied in the Nov. 1918 with 73 kills.

Salute!

I just recently finished a campaign starting in December 1916 and ending in November 1918. *It is the first time I have finished a campaign without getting starched in the process. *I flew with Jasta 2 and started as Rittmeister so that way I can control what missions I fly. *I set a level of 125%, but I have done much better than my counterparts here. *I ran up a score of 183 victories and amassed 402 combat hours.

I was wounded once, and lost only a few days due to injuries. *I always avoid combat where I am at a decided disadvantage, particularly if I am heavily outnumbered. *I am not adverse to turning tail and shagging-ass out of danger, and once flew east for over an hour while pursued by a squadron of N-17's who had already fragged my wingman. *The Brits eventually turned around and headed home.

I do not know if these results are typical, and have been "killed," "maimed," or "captured" during the attempt to complete a campaign dozens of times. *

My greatest concern is the fact that many German experten are killed or maimed while flying along with me. *I am poison to other Heinie drivers in this game. *

Hey Shooter,

I guess you really earned your call sign! have you amassed a victory total like this on more then one occasion? Maybe you can give the rest of use some pointers on how to be that successful. Good advice though on high-tailing when the odds are stacked against you. Too bad I don't always follow that rule. I am sometimes a little too aggressive and cocky to leave the fight at the right time!

My best in one day is 15. but most likely the main reason for that is that I joined up in August 1918 and flew three missions on one day. But hey it has the same date for all the kills

My highest score in 1 mission was 9.It was in bloody april.
My highest camapign score was 54 or so.

One of my coolest missions as far as I can remember was when I patrolled over the front lines in a Camel and shot about 3 or 4 german machines while heavily woundend and my camel almost shot to shreds.Yet I still made it back.

I also remember that I blew the crap out of 2 Turkish Albatrosses with my Bristol Scout over the mid east desert.
