Well, the cat is out of the bag.
Just to let you all know. Robert Baslee's going to be bringing a full scale DR-1 to Sun'n Fun this year. He's planning on hanging a VW in the front with a belt reduction swinging a 103" prop. (Jeeze!!!)

He and Emil Rose are building two of them at the same time together. Emil is planning on flying his to Oshkosh.

Take a look at: http://www.airdromeaeroplanes.com/images/tripe-1-a.JPG to a shot of Emil standing in front of his.

Hmmmm... interesting... but it's WIRE BRACED! Triplanes are supposed to have cantilever wings!

The landing gear angles and center section struts are way off.

I have to disagree. I think it is just the perspective of the photo, and the fact that the engine/cowl are not installed- you are looking at the location that will become the firewall. Looks fairly accurate to me.

The top of the wheels to the strut attachment points do not look accurate. The angle and splay look more squat than it actually was. Also, the center section struts are made of multiple pieces where their original counterparts were of a different shape and not bolted together with multiple fittings. The interplane struts are very thick on this reproduction where they were much thinner on the real deal. I know that they are using modern methods, materials, etc. which is a good idea for reliability sake...

I really like that Memorial Flight Dr.I and also Fred Murrin's. They are about as close as one is likely to see.

Compare the strut angles, distance of top of wheel to fuselage and wing, strut shapes and fittings, landing gear strut attachment points, strut tubing cross sections, etc.

I don't think the idea is to make a perfect reproduction of a Dr.1 -- rather, this would be a good replica. It's especially neat if the plane could be made available as a kit.

Thanks for the update, Dwight.

Regards,

-Drew

He will be selling Kits. That is the plan for now. Certain parts could be ordered pre-made, to speed up construction of the aeroplane.
