Does anyone know anything about this brand of models? Are they comparable to the old Monogram SpeedeeBilt Models? I've been trying to find SpeedeeBilts on ebay with no success. I never see them at the IPMS shows either. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Kirby

P.S. Don't any of you lay any BS on me about not being old enough to remember SpeedeeBilts. (Even though you probably are too young.) (ESPECIALLY if you are too young.) ;)

Hi Kirby,
* * *The Easy-Builds are not even close to the Speedeebilts
but are more along the lines of the old kits from the '40's &
'50's (box type fuselage construction).
Some are excellent and a few I wouldn't even let my dog build.
By that, I mean that the subject is way out of scale with really large (sometimes extra large) tail surfaces.

Don't get me wrong, some are really outstanding and their line is pretty large (90 kits I think now). If your willing to spend some extra time reworking the outlines to scale, you could turn an ugly duck into a swan.

If your looking for the original SPEEDEEBILTS on ebay, expect
to pay around $100 or more depending on what the kit is. I've seen them go as high as $350 per kit. Great collector's items
for sure. Easy-builds can be bought from Penn Valley hobbies
as they carry the entire line or you can order direct from the factory. Good luck on your quest! *

Dave-Thanks for the information. I have a soft spot in my heart for the old Speedeebilts. As I recall, even a twelve year old kid could turn out a fairly respectable Spad from those kits. I've never seen one on ebay yet but I keep checking. I knew the price would be way up there. At the last IPMS show I went to, the old Aurora and Monogram kits I used to buy for .98 cents were going for 98 dollars. I posted a thread about it on the old Forum under the heading, "Sticker Shock". Again, thanks for the information.

Kirby:
Dave at DPC Models has some pretty fine models all WW1 with real potential for a fine scale model with a little extra effort. What more important they don't cost an arm and a leg. For that 100 bucks , you would get 4 kits.
Blue skies,

Dan San

Thanks for the advice. Dave and I have been in contact too and he's given me some pretty smart advice, also.

I went to the AF Museum store yesterday and checked out the easy built models. Wasn't very impressed. Strange though. I have an almost overwhelming urge to tackle one of those Guillow's balsa and tissue models I used to build when I was a kid.

Wonder why. ???
