I’m in the process of completing a model of a Hannover CLIIIa courtesy of Airfix.

I have a question for the team, does anyone know any details about the racks of little bombs that are included with the kit. They are, according to the instructions to be fitted either side of the observers cockpit. They look like mortar bombs or grenades with tail fins fitted. Also what are the oversize cartridges in the “bandalore” type arrangement that is slung across the rump of the aircraft?

My prim question is. What colour should they be painted and were the racks always carried if the aircraft was not used on ground attack missions?

Yours, Chris

Chris:
The little bombs are Wurfgranaten (Projectile grenades) and were painted light blue. The belt across the turtledeck is grey cloth with brass colored signalling pistol flares. They were different colored star flares and the colors represented some signal, such as double red = attack, single green= assemble, what ever. they had single and double star shells, red, white, blue, yellow and green.
Blue skies,
Dan-San
