If anyone has any photos of Joseph Wehner, please let me know via email. Thanks.

Amy, dear,
Hope this can be of some help: WINGS OF HONOR (James J. Sloan, Jr.; Schiffer Publishing, 1994)--
Please refer to page 351, upper right hand corner: a photo of both Wehner and Ivan Roberts (who was also Luke's wingman).
VBR,
Captain Lewis

Capt. Lewis dear,

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I don't have the book you mentioned. Does the book list the source of the photo?

I'm also looking to hear from anyone who might have an old squadron photo album of pics that contain Joe--a plus would be photos of Joe that haven't been published before. There aren't many photos of Joe floating around.

Thanks!
Amy

Sorry folks, just kicking this thread back to the top in case someone out there knows of any photos who hasn't seen the thread yet.

And thanks Volker for the link.

Dear Amy (und Völker),
I'm sorry to keep citing a book that you as of yet still don't own, but, according to Sloan's WINGS OF HONOR, a mistaken identification has been made:
[page110, bottom left corner]
"Lt. Alfred Grant became C.O. of the 27th Pursuit Squadron as Major Hartney took over the 1st Pursuit Group. This photograph [the same as the one Völker linked and the one appearing here at The Aerodrome's ACES; but these photos appear to have been reversed] is reported to be Lt. Joseph Wehner, per National Archives photo file P-1454 but is positively identified as Grant, square -jawed, stern, and an excellent pilot. [Photo courtesy H. Hugh Wynne)"

Volker's link is indeed Wehner. Grant looks very different. Alan Durkota's Medal Of Honor Winners of WWI book by Flying Machines Press has the above photo and another of Wehner, plus a clear photo of Grant. The Section is about Frank Luke and also has many good photos of him.

Go to www.flying-machines.com to find out the details of the book.

I posted this yesterday, and it got lost, so I will try again from memory. The photo linked by Volker is from the Grub Street book Over The Front; the picture caption in the book has been copied to the photo. This photo has been cropped. A different cropping (portrait) can be seen in the American Fighter Aces Album, which (as I remember) crops the top of the Grub Street picture, but shows his full figure.

Frank.
