Greetings...

I am looking for information about The following casualty.

On May 2nd 1918 the crew of Pilot Leutnant der Reserve Franz Hemmerle and Observer Leutnant der Reserve Hermann Neff of FA 298(A)b were lost near Bois d' Clauche, Vieville *and I am looking for the answers to some questions.

1- How did they perish? Were they shot down? Is there an Allied claim that matches?

2- What type of aircraft were they flying? if that is unknown, what types of aircraft was FA 298(A)b flying at this time?

3- Where was this unit stationed at the time? who was the Commanding Officer?

My intrest is mostly with Neff, but any other information about either man would be most appreciated.....

I know that this will entail alot of "digging" so I would like to say "Thank You" in advance...

Scotty,

* * My data is pretty sparse, but - - - :

The C.O. of FA 298(A)b was Hptm.Alfred Kimmel, Obs.
from 27Sep17 - 22May18 to FEA 1b. *Source: *Potempa

Ltn.d.R. Hermann Neff, Obs.
FEA 1b * 15Aug17 *-
AFP C * * * * * * * * * *-
FA 298(A)b * * * * * *- * 2May18 *KIA
As an aside, the Bavarian Ehrenbuch lists him as still with AFP C when he was KIA. *Perhaps either in the process of transferring or on a trial flight with Hemmerle?

Ltn.d.R. Franz Hemmerle, Pilot
FS IV (of FEA 1b) * Aug17 *- * Mar18
FA 298(A)b * * * * * *Mar18 *- *2May18 *KIA
Probably FA 298(A)b via AFP C, but I have no dates.

* *Sorry, as I said, pretty sparse data. * * * *R.
