Hi,
my father always told me about his uncle, Oswald Hornig, a german pilot in WWI. Since my father was very young at that time, he couldn't remember anything more than that his uncle died in war, that he fought at the western front and that he was an "Unteroffizier". Oswald Hornig was born in 1891.
Does anyone know something about my grand uncle? I would be happy.
Greetings from Hamburg,
Frank

Frank,

This will not be very definitive, but there was a pilot, Uffz. Hornig (first name not known), who flew with Schlasta 21 from at least July 1918 until he was captured on 8 August 1918 at Harbonnieres. There is no record of him having been killed and/or that he died in captivity. Still, stranger things have happened. I would love to tie these two names together. Would you happen to know his date of death? Please get back to me on this. Rick

The only person with the name Hornig that I found in the list with 11652 names of airpersonnel that died in WW I is a certain Gustav Hornig, born at Oppeln on the 19th october 1876 and who died at Warneton on the 26th april 1918.
So I think Rick is on the right track for the moment. There are gaps in this list after all.

Let's hope so, anyway. R.
