I have a photograph dated April 1916 of two German airmen. *One of the names written on the reverse side either reads Graf "Holek" or Graf "Holck". *

I've heard of Graf Holck, but not Holek. *Does anyone have any information regarding a "Graf Holek"? *Or, can anyone point me to where a picture of Graf Holck is to compare?

Thanks.

Hi Amy

There are two photos on Graf Holck in Ferkos book "Richthofen"(which I recommend to read) on page 4.

You can probably use these photos for a positive identification.. 8)
I think you can forget Graf Holek... ???

Neal O'Connor's vol. V also had several photos of the man, including him lying in the wreckage of his Fokker Eindecker after his mortal wounding. Tragic. If it was Holck and dated April 1916 he didn't have long to live!

Oops, I was wrong, it is in Neal's vol VI. in the section 14 on the House Merit Order Duke Peter Friedrich.

Amy,

Check your hotmail account, I sent you something that will help ID if it is indeed von Holck.

Cheers,

Cigogne

Thanks for the reply Gunnar & Cigogne for the pictures!

The photo is of THE Count Holck.

I purchased a group of photos from an "auktion" in Germany. One of the photographs from the group is the one in question. The description of the photograph in the auction catalog stated "Graf Holek". But, when I received the photograph, on the reverse side the handwriting looked like "Graf Holck" to me. Soooo, either there was a typo in the auction catalog or someone just didn't read the backside of the photograph correctly.
