Pègoud performed the first public/intentional loop-the-loop 21 Sep 1913 at Buc, near Versailles. 300,000 Parisians watched him do the stunt in his reinforced Blèriot XI-2 with a 50hp Gnôme rotary and PEGOUD painted across the wings.
The Loop-the Loop had be accomplished earlier. If not by Pègoud himself; by Russian aviator Peter Nesteroff (albeit unintentional) on a Nieuport IV monoplane. (9 Sep I have noted).
I have read he got the idea when he made his 'famous first' August 1913 parachute jump out of his aeroplane and saw the pilotless Blèriot XI perform a loop.
