Jim:

Alex Revell speculates in the postscript of "Brief Glory" that Rhys-Davids' grave was probably obscured in subsequent battles. *Werner Voss' final resting place suffered the same fate. *According to Revell the two were buried about five miles, and one month, apart. *

There are many unidentified graves in Commonwealth War Graves Cemeteries, and there are many cemeteries where graves are known to exist, but the location has been lost. And, of course, thousands of bodies that were never recovered from battlefield burials, and are sometimes located even now.

There are probably few unidentified RFC/RAF graves, but that would be the starting point. Next you would need to get the CWGC records for what personal effects (if any) were recovered by the graves registration party. Then, you might have a starting point for finding Rhys-Davis' grave.

Always assuming that it wasn't totally destroyed by shellfire.

Nit-picking, I know, but it's Rhys Davids (no hyphen).

Graeme,
Nit-pic away, if I'm wrong I'd rather hear it from you, than keep making the same mistake. Thank's !
As a matter of fact, that's exactly why I sent you the Alexander material today. I also made copies for Mike W and
Killratio. I would appreciate it if the three of you nit-pic away.
It can only help the article.

Can anyone supply more details as to how Rhys Davids met his end? I am familiar with Franks' account from WHO DOWNED THE ACES IN WW1, but I'm afraid that it's very short on actual details.
BTW, Cecil Lewis in SAGITARIUS RISING paints a fairly good word portrait of Rhys Davids...
