While it's fascinating to contemplate a Zep bombing of the US, and there's no doubt we'd have offered zero-zip-nada defense, it wouldn't have effected the outcome of the war. If anything, it only would have (ahem) further awakened a sleeping giant.
But imagine Zeps based in Mexico! Hoo-eee!

The Luftwaffe had the capability of bombing New York in WW II with the huge Ju-390, which was intended to employ The German Nuke. One of 'em flew within about 50 miles of the US coast in June '44 (IIRC) and returned to Norway.
