yeah, the fit should be smooth inside so there is even contact with the ball socket. if there is just a ring around the top of the socket that is making contact, there will be too much stress on the ball. a poor fit increases the wear on the top of the ball socket and increases the likelyhood of failure under weight. you want the weight even over the surface of the socket and not on a ring on the top or on the pin that goes through the socket.

keep in mind that if it doesn't, it won't stop your plane from flying ... just might need to do more maint later.
