Though the "true colour..." has evolved into the "true serial numbers..." there is a good deal of valuable information here for the devotee, enthusiast and research fiend. My two cents on the colour of 425/17 in modeling paints is Testors insignia red with a small amount of orange brown #1166 in about 8 to 2 ratio = Indian lake red.
