Barrett,
at least two German aircrews contributed to the victory of Tannenberg with flights on 30 August 1914.
According to GLT von Cochenhausen in the book "Wille und Tat":
Lt Canter / Lt Mertens and Lt Hesse / Lt Körner (both FFA 14).
To my knowledge especially Lt Canter was called Flieger von Tannenberg.
That seems to be strange because he was only the pilot and not observer but he was a born East Prussian and knew his homeland very well.
Kurt (Curt?) Canter was also a famous pre-war military pilot.
On 9 September 1914 Canter and Mertens got EK I for their deed by Prussian General von Francois himself. On 17 September 1914 Hesse and Körner got the same award.
