Jasta 18 Markings
Dear all,
I was hoping somebody could help me with a question about the wing colours of Jasta 18 Fokker DVII's. According to Osprey's 'Fokker DVII Aces of WWI (Part 2)', the uppersurfaces of both wings were red, the undersurfaces covered in 4 colour lozenge. However, the Internet Modeller from October 1999 shows upper and lower surfaces as red.
Does anyone know a photograph that might confirm whether the undersurfaces of Jasta 18 Fokkers were painted red or not? The only photo I am aware of that shows the underside of a wing is the famous image of Guenther von Bueren standing by his machine (on page 86 of the Osprey book). The wings don't seem to be covered in lozenge, but the image isn't distinct enough to be sure.
Any light able to be shed on this would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Alan.
