Re: Udet "tubbing" w/Goering-- Call Udet naive, if you will, but Goering's
shows of comraderie did take him in. Also, even though Goering was Reichsmarschall, Udet was Quartermaster General. All flow of military materials passed under his pen, and not even Goering could trump it. If he wanted resources for his pet projects, he had to play footsy w/ Udet. Needless to say, the egotistical s.o.b. resented this, too, and when he saw a way to take out his old "comrade", he did.

Re: His aerial skill-- Never said he was an outstanding AVIATOR. Marksman, yes. It is interesting that, upon assuming command of Jasta Richtofen, he found himself "consumed by administrative duties", and therefore unable to actually fly as many sorties. (Hmmmm...)

I think the reason that Goering kept his butt in the seat and not in the cockpit was because he had made it to the catbird seat and didn't need to push himself into any unnecessary dangerous positon. Besides who would cover his bacon in the air, after his sudden rise to power.

Goering got lucky with the capsule, the rope most probably would have broke and they would have to do it all over again and again until they got it right. Changing his diaper every time would have been full of it - now that was a thought.
