If you enter W's name here on Aerodrome in the 'Search' option you'll find an incredible tale to consider~ 'W' was reportedly downed while in the act of fleeing his role as a GAF airman and defecting to the Allies. He is said to have been flying SPADs with the French after a period of recovery from his crash injury~

Other sources have suggested he was active in French Government service up to the late '30's when he was known to have been on an intelligence assignment in Berlin.
