Sreiko some of the concern lay in the lighting of the image you are using here. The plywood Axle wing was overpainted solid green and the dripping oil from the engine cylinder heads (when then the motor was off) soaked into the surface and causing most of this effect.
In flight the propllor wash threw the excess raw dripping back along the surface. While the burn oil exhaust added to the patina.
