The two bottom wingtip skids, as well as the tailskid, were made of "ash" wood. It's a very hard and strong wood! Indeed, birch plywood was used in all the various Dr.I's plywood applications like wing rib webs, small plywood reinforcement wing rib/spar fittings, three large triangular fuselage fairings, wing leading edge coverings, wheel axle housing fairing covering, etc.
