I have been looking for a source for these since reading about them in Shep Paine's book on dioramas. One thing bothers me though ,if you look closely at the pic you can see a line down the centerline of the runway .Are these truly double sided mirror's????
Hi John,
The runway surface in that dio is made from balsa, and I scribed lines on the outside edge of the center stripes, but the seam in the center is due to me not getting the cut perfectly straight. The mirrors are true first surface; it just demonstrates the importance of straight seam lines!
The most important aspect of making the illusion convincing is maintaining straight lines. Especially on the fuselage (sanding/rubbing/buffing), you must keep it flat against the desk to preserve the sharp edge. Learned a lot from that first build, and those that follow will be refined.
Take care,
Frank
