Doug,

While I see variation in color in close up photos of reproduction fabric, I doubt it would be visible at the scale you posted. You have produced a neat effect, but I think it is out of scale.

I believe that the doped fabric should be darker, and slightly more saturated than the untreated fabric. By just adding amber, you have made it lighter and less saturated.
