To be honest, I have never seen the photograph of this airplane. But this picture suits to description I know.

Greetings Marek,

Either you are right and I am wrong or.....
My foto is identified as a L.F.G. Roland C.IX (it actually has C-9!). I was hoping for more input after the "12 Hour" waiting period. I was going to see if anything came up after 24 hours had passed from the start of this thread, but after reading Richard's congradulatory note. I did a quick google search and have to agree that it probably is a C.VIII and not a C.IX, although it is possible that there was a C.IX prototype....I don't know. I have several fotografs of prototypes by different well known aircraft factories that I previously didn't even know these prototypes existed. Usually the only information I can find about most of them is what ever is hand written on the back of the foto.

I have learned not to trust everything that is written, even by people that were there!

I really don't like asuming an identification and calling it a done deal with out being possitive about the ID. Kind of like a Breguet vs a Breguet-Michelin or a Morane Saulnier P, AI, LA, etc.

If anyone has any information on the L.F.G. Roland C.IX, Please bring it now.

I will award points after a little while if we are in agreement on this ID.

Either way, I figure I have a rare foto (on the back it says: "Extremely rare L.F.G. Roland biplane type C-9! (1917) Mercedes 180 h.p. Taken at the Johannisthal Aerodrome! (This is the shot you have been asking about)."

Bottom line it is either the very rare C.VIII or an "Extremely Rare" C.IX!

Even worse than posting fotografs that one is not sure about is not posting them at all (not sharing)!

Do think about what you will submit for the next challenge, because you will have a full point or the "Lion's Share".

HAPPY TRAILS, FOKKERJ
