This is one of the Monoplane (Eindecker) types designed and built by the Nordwestdeutsche Flugzeugwerke Heinrich Evers & Co. In all 6 different monoplanes E 1 till E 6 were built by NFW between 1912 - 1913, the firm folded for financial reasons within a year. The engineer Heinrich Evers was the leading force in NFW. In 1913 he went to the USA to work in the Benoist firm.
After the start of the war he immediately returned to Germany, but was captured by the French and kept in France till 1917, when he fled to Switzerland and later to Germany. He started work with Caspar later again going to the USA to work in the Fokker firm.

The machine in the challenge is given as fifth monoplane (E 5), powered by a 3-cylinder Hilz engine (40 hp). It was a single-seat machine, with a wide spaced undercarriage and skids. Interesting are the double posts on the fuselage securing all the wires strengethening the wings.

Cheers
