Let me guess, the book was "The People's War" by

Billy Bishop? You did well to keep on walking. I believe he signed all of those. The going price for them is about $50 or a bit less if you look around.

As for the letter about the Udet confirmation, I would insist on some pretty thorough checking to insure it is real. Forgeries of this kind of material is not uncommon.
