AND Grahame-White had earler designs than the type XV after all. Anyone have a listing for aircraft at Chingford 1915/1916 ?
Grahame White had earlier designs before the Type XV, but the models described by J.M.Bruce in The Aeroplanes of the Royal Flying Corps (Military Wing) fits the bill for the Challenge machine. The big differences are the four wheel undercarriage and the form of the single rudder in the Challenge machine.

Second point is that the only Grahame White machine used by the RNAS was the Grahame White Type XV (Admiralty Type 1600). Reference: Sturtivant.

This all but rules out that Marlowe flew a Grahame White machine from the RNAS or of the RFC.

Perhaps there is evidence provided in the C&C article about the exact model what Marlowe then flew in February 1916. If not I would vote for the identification of the Challenge machine as a Henry Farman HF.27 as already mentioned by others.

Cheers
