ernst udet kept the cognac bottles in his plane... to keep it away from the airfield... there are plenty of pictures of men having alcohol in and around their quarters so maybe airfield is strictly at the aerodrome involving ground crews etc. there is plenty of evidence that the pilots were not at all abstinent...
