Hi Jos,
Well, my dog-eared copy of the paperback version:
Has a copyright date of
1916, by August Scherl, GmbH, Berlin. It was also published in the same year by G.G. Haupt. Note that on this original Heydemarck's rank is given as Oberleutnant. From what I can figure, all his other books were written in the 1930's, when his rank was given as Hauptmann. The Engliah translation of
Double-decker C.666 by Sykes was first published by John Hamilton in 1931. That was followed by
Flying Section 17 in 1934 and
War Flying in Macedonia in 1935.
I don't know why the Dutch version was abridged. Here are the chapters in my paprerback 1916 edition:
Vorwort
Fernaufklärung
Durch die Wolken
Bomben auf Bahnhof Avocourt
Minus 30 degrees
Gehetzt
Nachtflug
Bange Minuten
Und doch!
Motorpanne
In den Nebel hinein
Der letzte Flug von "C 666"
As you can see if you compare the English translation by Sykes, it would seem some of the material had been moved around and edited into more chapters than in the German original. It would be more of a task than I'm willing to take on right now to try to compare the English version with the German and see how things were re-arranged.
Hope that helps.
Greg
