I mean the step in the Dr.1 model-cowling is not really a "must". The cowling on my Dr.1 model (Roden 1/32) is the Kit-Part only with handmade revits and panel-line.
The pictures of the cowling are from my Dr.1 "Fritz Kempf", I think it's so OK without the step.
