Well I finally read all the 100 pages on this forum!! I found it to be very interesting + I learned some things that I didn't know. I saw a few photos of myself that I would like to get in full resolution if possible. I think AAC Cadet asked where Cole lived in Florida, I believe Aerodrome Kid wrote that he lived in Boca Raton but I believe he lived a bit North in Delray! We went to visit him at his home in Florida. Cole , Rita , my Dad and myself went out for dinner at this really cool Rib place with a live bluegrass band playing.

I read this article from CONTROL COLUMN and I just wanted to know if this was true, it is a small article on the Albatross. In the article it states, Under it's German Air Force crosses it bears " Made in Delray Beach.

I saw this happen and I would like to add what I saw and remember.

I believe that, rather than crash into the trees, he deliberately flew it into the ground at the base of the trees. Can anyone provide more details?

Throughout the incident Cole maintained his usual smiling sang-froid. He was simply happy that nobody was hurt.

The first photo shows the aircraft where it came to rest. The second and third have Rick beside the aircraft. The fifth clearly shows the extent of the damage. Note the shape of the fuselage.
As Andy wrote about the accident, I'd like to add my 2 cents.
Rick intended to fly the Hanriot and not just taxi it. I was the last wing runner on the South East part of the field by the gas pump. The Hanriot should have been on the ground by the time it was by me but something happened and he took his hand off one of the controls and because it is/was a tail heavy plane, it shot straight up like a rocket above me. I'd never seen it at that height, he stabalized it. At the altitude it was, it was impossible for him to land and I thought that he was going to fly it around but I believe in the confusion, he had shut off the gas line , he took out the power line for the Aerodrome and crashed unharmed into the lower trees. I was the first at scene. Just trying to add some more detail of what happened!!
