Austro-Hungarian Hex

Hi Doug,

Unfortunately not anything new on the helix. We need good fotografs showing both sides of a particular machine and or the top of the fuselage. It could be up to the builder/modeler or Artist at this point. I have seen conflicting fotos of this phenom. The most entertaining work will be getting any pattern, helical or chevron to meet and mix at the top center of the fuselage, especially with all of the busy contours on the top aft fuselage. It looks like some hand painting might come into play. I believe that from what I have observed, the hex in this area are accomendated by different sizes to take care of this problem. It's called Improvisation!

I don't have the great books or a DATA FILE, just an old Profile Publication on the Aviatik D.I and an article in C&C. I'm at a loss here. I do have a couple of books on my "Wish List", but watch the availability come and go on them.

I guess you just proceed and let people make up their own mind on this application, since your main objective has been to make these patterns available. It's up to the individual whether to apply at Zero Degrees, 30 left or 30 right slant, helical or chevron. I personally will use the helical pattern 'til proved wrong.

Best Wishes, Jay

P.S. I am throwing this in the Thread discussion as i feel it's important and may generate some answers
