I have been watching the Region 2 DVD of the Red Baron which was recently released in the UK - it is some twenty minutes shorter than a version which I had seen previously. It has some of the battle scenes re-edited, and supposedly now shows Hawker being shot down, however this is cut together from several different scenes with the result that Hawker's machine is now portrayed by: SE.5, RE.8, Camel and Albatros...(yes, Albatros). People who aren't interested in WWI flying machines wouldn't notice, but it really irks me! The best thing that can be said about the shorter cut is that it increases the ratio between exciting flying action and boring, badly written dialogue scenes. Unfortunately the flying scenes no longer make sense to WWI aviation fans - the glitch mentioned above is not the only such occurence.
