Out of completeness, I should point out that Burrell Cannon wasn't the only one to look to the Book of Ezekiel for inspiration. Here are other interpretations of Ezekiel's Chariot:

In 1764 the German Melchior Bauer designed this flying machine, which he had petitioned funding for from various heads of state, but without success. In some ways, it was an advanced design, with it having a wheeled undercarriage and, significally, having the lift and thrust functions separated out on the aircraft. A full analysis of Bauer's design can be found within the book The Prehistory of Flight by Clive Hart, which has been mentioned previously in this forum. A one-page overview can be found at:

In the aftermath of Erich von Daniken's books on UFOs and ancient astronauts, the NASA aerospace engineer Josef Blumrich looked at the Book of Ezekiel anew, and came up with the above design. He wrote a book called The Spaceships of Ezekiel, copies of which can be picked up cheaply on eBay or Bookfinder. His design and his interpretation of the biblical text, however, have been the subject of criticism, noticably at the following two sites:
