OK here is what i have found out by looking at photos only.. the GIV's had hexs there is no mention of this in WWI AERO wrote buy Dan the only GIV i could get the numbers were GIV1055/16 and it had hex the A-H Gotha GIV's had hex also .. the only GV i could find with hex was one that crashed on Dec 4 1917 and it had very large hex's on the top wing pretty close to 3 feet across the flats or less then on meter, no G numbers to go off from in fact i don't even know if it is a GV i can see only the wings and the tail it might be a GIV the photo says it a GV.. what i was looking for was Gotha numbers of the aircraft that i have color codes for or close to them ,, they are GOTHA GV 900, 925,938,976 /16
What i found was Gotha GV 904/16 ERIKA , GV 947/16 KZ , GV 901/16, all have irregular hex's no hexs !! the only thing i don't know about is defiant manufactures might have there own style but i think all that were listed wre Gotha made i realy don't know
