Just a thought but another possibility is 9 Jun 16 when the 16 Sqn crew of Lt Pentland & Capt WH Walker were attacked by a Fok E over Harbourdin at 1750 - the EA was hit on a turn and fell away in a fast dive and was seen to crash.
All the German lists give date of death 16 Jun 16 but if he did indeed die of wounds then it is concievable he was wia on 9 Jun 17 - loc is in the right area.
