If I may add a few thoughts.

If sunlight is penetrating through translucent material, more than one layer will be less translucent and block more light. Therefore, when viewed in natural sunlight from above, ribs and their tapes would appear darker when seen from underneath. See the picture of the D.F.W. C.V in the aircraft section. The photo Bob used as an example was taken indoors with the aid of a flash, which floods the subject with light from the level of the camera that is at ground level. This picture is not an accurate depiction of the effects of natural sunlight.
