I was a kid riding home on the skool bus when we were buzzed by the Red Baron in his triplane. He made several passes and then, to cheers and great delight from us kids, crashed in the car park of 'The Limes Club' boozer.
I got off the bus and went to have a neb. The Red Baron was dead, smouldering and badly burnt, the force of the impact had smashed him and his seat deep into the fuselage of the aircraft. It was all a bit gory and horrible. When I told my Mom about it she went apeshit and blamed Sven Hassel! I'd just discovered his books and was reading 'em all the time, she nicked them and chucked them in the bin.
