My dentist used to provide nitrous oxide gas for pain relief. I looked forward to dental appointments because it allowed me to become a WW1 Brisfit observer. I used to ask for extra gas, claiming I have a low threshold to pain.

The WW1 experience was so real and vivid that it was sometimes scary, especially when a D7 got on my tail and I was frantically swinging those twin vickers on the scarf ring to see him in my blind spot! Strangely enough, as a result of this experience I think I have a better appreciation of WW1 aerial combat than just about anyone else alive today! And its a beautiful but terrifying experience!! Of course, it helps if you have a naturally vivd imagination
Sadly, he doesn't provide gas any more.
